Speculations about "Shameless" cancellation have been put to rest after it has been confirmed that Emmy Rossum has signed up for Season 8. The news came days before "Shameless" Season 7 airs its season finale episode.

Emmy Rossum (who plays Fiona Gallagher) finally gets what she wants, and that is to have a bigger salary. Other reports said she wanted the same salary as her "Shameless" co-star William H. Macy (who plays Frank Gallagher). But Emmy Rossum reportedly asked for higher salary, according to Variety. In fact, Showtime is said to have offered the actress the equal pay before the negotiations of her contract renewal started, which apparently she turned down.

The dispute caused the delay for the confirmation of "Shameless" Season 8. However, a few days ago, Emmy Rossum's personal announcement ended the show's cancellation rumors. She posted on her Twitter page that she will be back for another season, which fans took as a sign that she has also been successful in obtaining her pay increase.

"Playing Fiona Gallagher has been one of the great privileges of my life. I'm so happy to continue w my SHAMELESS family! Back to work in May!" Emmy Rossum wrote.

William H. Macy, who is undoubtedly more popular than Emmy Rossum when "Shameless" debuted, has also been confirmed to be coming back for Season 8. Both of them had their salaries significantly increased since the first season, according to reports.

As Emmy Rossum revealed, "Shameless" Season 8 will begin producing new episodes in May next year. It's too early for a set premiere data for the eighth season, but judging by when "Shameless" Season 7 aired, fans can expect all-new episodes of the dramedy sometime in October.

"Shameless" is a dramedy that follows the story of a family of seven, headed by William H. Macy's Frank Gallagher, the father, who has an unusual parenting style being a single father. Emmy Rossum's Fiona Gallagher is the eldest daughter among the six siblings.
