Tesla and SpaceX have joined the amicus brief opposing the Donald Trump travel ban. The amicus brief originally contains 97 signatures from technology firms.
According to a news article published by The Verge, Elon Musk's SpaceX and Tesla have insisted on being added to the brief that supports the lawsuit against the travel ban that suspends any citizen or dual national of Iran, Iraq, Lybia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen from entering the United States for a period of 90 days. The two companies are not signatories of the first version of the amicus brief, which had the signatures of 97 other firms such as Twitter and Facebook.
Musk's companies did not join the brief in the beginning due to the CEO's desire to directly work with Trump to reverse his executive order. Musk was hoping to use his membership in the Strategic and Policy Forum to do so.
However, a spokesperson of Tesla stated that as soon as they saw the brief that morning, they insisted on being added to the list.
The amicus brief stated that the President's executive order negatively affects the business operations of the firms listed. Specifically, it cites harm to American business, innovation, and growth.
The Guardian reports that it was not only Tesla and SpaceX that have decided to support the brief but also 29 other firms. It lists Bungie and Slack, Adobe, and HP among the 29.
The news site added that the lawsuit by Washington state has succeeded in putting a temporary halt to the Trump travel ban. The suit is currently being heard in San Francisco's ninth circuit federal court.
In other news, it was noted that several Muslim-majority countries where Trump has business interests were not included in the ban as reported by Jobs & Hire. Click here to read more about it.
