The Los Angeles Clippers and the New York Knicks are reportedly engaged in talks about a potential trade centered on Iman Shumpert, who has been one of the hottest subjects of NBA trade rumors heading into the trade deadline.

Yahoo Sports' NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Wednesday that the Clippers and the Knicks are discussing a potential trade center around Shumpert and Raymond Felton, and Clippers point guard Darren Collison, whose playing time went down after Chris Paul's return from injury.

The two teams are not close to finalizing a deal since the deal's details are still being sorted out, but sources indicated that the Clippers are pushing hard to acquire Shumpert from the Knicks.

Shumpert is having a tumultuous season in New York due to his rumored falling out with Knicks coach Mike Woodson, averaging just 7.0 points and 4.5 rebounds a game this season.

But despite his well-documented struggles this season, several league executives are convinced that the 23-year-old guard would benefit from a change of scenery before Thursday's deadline.

"The discussions and proposed players are still fluid, league sources said, and a deal isn't close to being reached," Yahoo Sports reported. "Shumpert is an object of interest for the Clippers and the recent return of All-Star point guard Chris Paul makes Collison more expendable."

The Knicks, on the other hand, are also very interested in acquiring Collison especially if they can't strike a deal to acquire their primary trade targets - Boston Celtics All-Star point guard Rajon Rondo and Toronto Raptors veteran playmaker Kyle Lowry.

Acquiring Collison could be considered as a stop-gap solution to New York's point guard woes this season, but it could also work well into their favor.

Collison has shown his ability to handle the point guard chores if given enough playing time. The 26-year-old point guard averaged 14.4 points and 6.1 assists in 16 games in January when he took the starting spot for the Clippers when Paul went down with a shoulder injury.

Talks between the Clippers and the Knicks are expected to intensify hours before the deadline, but sources indicated that the Clippers should add more assets aside from Collison in order to reach an agreement with the Knicks.
