George Donaldson's death came as a shock to the Irish singing group Celtic Thunder fans. The 46-year-old lead singer reportedly passed away, March 12, Wednesday at his Glasgow, Scotland home following a massive heart attack.
According to the Irish Central, David Donaldson's death left his wife, Carolyn, and daughter, Sarah, fatherless.
Donaldson was reportedly born and raised in Glasgow. He was a self-taught musician, who has incredible mastery of using the guitar and flute. His passion for Celtic music was said to be due to his late father Bernard, who also loved the genre.
George Donaldson's most remarkable performance was at Glasgow Celtic's opening match of the 2000 season at Celtic Park. His proud dad was there to witness him play in front of at least 65,000 fans.
George reportedly joined Celtic Thunder in 2007 after successfully auditioning for a slot in front of show producer Sharon Browne.
Celtic Thunder was expected to perform at Newcastle Entertainment Centre come May 27 prior to Donald Donaldson's death.
''Donaldson was preparing to join his Celtic Thunder brothers to tour Australia in May, something he always looked forward to,'' a line from the Irish band's statement said. ''In recognition of this, and as George would have wanted, Celtic Thunder will respect his wishes and will honour their commitment to tour Australia on the Mythology tour which will commence in May this year.
The Herald reported that in January 2013, George revealed that his favorite book was Paulo Coelho's 'The Alchemist.' "If I hadn't read that book I don't know whether I would have just accepted my lot and just thought 'don't take a risk in life'."
