Why Shailene Woodley's Mary Jane Is Unlikely To Reappear In 'The Amazing Spider-Man 3'

Shailene Woodley's Mary Jane may have been the next big move for 'The Amazing Spider-Man' franchise, but it seems the young actress isn't ready to make a reappearance in the third installment of the box-office hit franchise.

In case you missed, Shailene Woodley's Mary Jane already appeared in 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2.' However, for some reason 'The Fault In The Stars' lead actress' scenes ended up not making it to the final cut of the film.

Screen Rant claims that the main reason why Woodley's MJ didn't make it to the big screen when the second installment of the franchise was shown was because her character might get in the way of the drama surrounding Peter Parker's (Andrew Garfield) first love story with Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone), who unfortunately got killed in the infamous tragic fate that was also presented in the original comic books.

Director Marc Webb dished following the release of 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' that the introduction of Shailene Woodley's Mary Jane Watson could have altered the attention of fans from the sad ending of Parker and Stacy's love story to the idea that a blossoming new romance is underway for the titular character.

In an interview with Vanity Fair for the magazine's July issue, Woodley expressed her initial reaction upon finding out that her brief cameo in the film was deleted.

Speaking with all honesty, the 'Divergent' star said that she felt awful, thinking that she may have not given her cameo appearance justice.

She even added that she's worried on how her fans will react when they find out that she was supposed to be in 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2.'

But then again, Woodley said that the day after she found out about it, she recalled that she quickly accepted her Mary Jane's fate.

"O.K., it makes total sense. I'm a pretty spiritual person, so I can just sit back and trust that everything happens for a reason, even if my ego doesn't like it," Shailene said.

Meanwhile, the actress was also cornered by MTV about the issue, and she was asked if she's still willing to appear in the third installment of the box-office Spiderman franchise or any of the future 'Amazing Spider-Man' movies for that matter.

"I don't know anything, but seeing as how they picked up the next two 'Divergent' films, I don't know how I would keep my sanity with two big action films in one year. But anything can happen," she told MTV.

Now since the sequels to Veronica Roth's dystopian books' movie adaptations are slated for 2015 and 2016 releases, respectively, many are already speculating that getting Shailene Woodley to play Mary Jane once again is already elusive.

Nevertheless, sources already claim that the production team has already found the perfect replacement for Woodley in the person of actress Sarah Gadon of 'Dracula Untold.'

Gadon is yet to confirm the rumors that she could be the new MJ for the upcoming third installment of the franchise, but the actress has already revealed that she has already been cast to play a role in the third film.
