Tom Hanks' Typewriter App Hanx Writer Can Turn iPad To Old-School Manual Typewriter

Tom Hanks' typewriter app is the newest project the renowned actor has released as of late. Yup! This is not a joke. The comedian-actor has not released a new movie or produced an acting gig, but instead he is catching up on technology by making his own app to satisfy his addiction to typewriters.

So what does Tom Hanks' typewriter app do? According to USA Today, the app called Hanx Writer can turn one's iPad into an old-school manual typewriter by replicating the sound of the old typing device. The thwack-thwack sound of "metal stamping on paper and the ding-clunk-fripp of reaching the end of one line and starting a new one" is so well imitated that people with the strange craving for typewriters will be pleased everytime they access the app.

On Twitter, Hanks was so proud to announce the launching of his typewriter app.

"Launching now: The Hanx Writer. Make a typewriter out of your Ipad. With crisp typeface, bold style and best of all the sound of typing..." the actor wrote.

Right now, Tom Hanks' typewriter app is free in Apple's App Store, but in-app purchases for typewriter fonts and additional sounds start at $2.99.

"What's pleasing to my sensibilities is when you have the report of the key being struck, it allows for clear thinking," Hanks said of his typewriter app.

The "Forrest Gump" actor, who admitted to collecting over 200 typewriters so far, went on to explain the charm of his app.

"I suppose some people who get the app may just be looking for a different sound, but really it's for people searching for a more personalized experience when writing on an iPad," he said. "There's also the opportunity here to take your iPad to a coffee house and be really obnoxious with all the clickety-clacking."

Tom Hanks also said that he intended to create the Hanx Writer not as a toy but as a functional tool that many other people can also use in their everyday living with their gadgets, noted The Verge.

Tom Hanks' typewriter app was designed by Stuart Westphal of Hitcents, the people behind Draw A Stickman game.
