Sulaiman Abu Ghaith, Bin Laden son in law has been found guilty last month of helping terrorists and to serve life imprisonment as his punishment for committing the crime.
It was on March 2014, that he was found guilty in engaging in a conspiracy and giving aid to the Al Qaeda terrorists in killing the Americans.
U.S. District Judge Lewis A. Kaplan imposed the life term on Abu Ghaith. He was being described by the authorities as the propaganda minister of Bin Laden at the same time the voice and face of Al Qaeda back in the days and weeks right after the 9/11 attacks.
According to Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara’s statement, "he was more than just Usama bin Laden's propaganda minister. Within hours after the devastating 9/11 attacks, Abu Ghayth was using his position in al Qaeda's homicidal hierarchy to persuade others to pledge themselves to al Qaeda in the cause of murdering more Americans.”
There was no allegation on the part of the government as to Abu Ghaith participation on carrying out the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
The prosecutors said, "Abu Ghaith was a terrorist who sat alongside bin Laden on the morning of Sept. 12, 2001, celebrating the murder of nearly 3,000 innocent, men, women and children the day before."
The said trial was held few blocks right from the Manhattan’s WTC. The family members of the victims as well as survivors attended the much awaited verdict of Bin Laden son in law.
It was a year ago when Abu Ghaith was captured as he was heading towards Kuwait. The CIA was able to track down his whereabouts right towards downtown Ankara.
