Appalling ISIS Execution Video Shows Unlawful Mass Murder Of Prison Inmates

Based on a Human Rights Watch Organization report released Thursday, survivors recounted their ordeal when the vicious ISIS militants methodically executed at least 600 Iraqi male inmates. In a Daily Mail archived ISIS execution video, it showed the appalling summer carnage by the Islamic State that had vastly killed Shiite Muslims.

Fifteen Shiite survivors that have survived the carnage told the Human Rights Watch that after taking hold of Badoush prison, located outside the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, the ISIS gunmen separated the Sunni from the Shiite inmates. The militants then forced the Shiites to kneel along the nearby ravine's edge and shot them with assault rifles and automatic artillery. The horrific incident on the ISIS execution video happened last summer, June 10, 2014.

As said by the survivors, the inmates were interrogated about their beliefs, identities, hometowns and any other information. In a Business Insider report, ISIS militants separated the group from over 1,500 prisoners along religious and ethnic lines. Witnesses said about 100 Shiite inmates were successful at pretending to be Sunni to escape further brutality.

"The gruesome details of ISIS' mass murder of prison inmates make it impossible to deny the depravity of this extremist group," senior terrorism and counterterrorism researcher Letta Tayler said. "People of every ethnicity and creed should condemn these horrific tactics, and press Iraqi and international authorities to bring those responsible to justice."

Human Right Watch Organization said the unlawful mass summary executions showed on the ISIS video is considered as crimes against humanity.

A survivor told the organization the day before the ISIS executions, the prison had no food and prison guards were in panic. The International Business Times reported the guards changed into civilian clothing and fled the prison. The Badoush prison in Mosul, Iraq's biggest city, held almost 3,000 inmates. The prisoners had been serving sentences for a range of crimes, from murder and assaults to nonviolent offenses.

The identities of the survivors from the ISIS executions that were interviewed by the organization were withheld in order protect them from possible reprisal. On the shocking video, most of the inmates were shot in the head, the back and the side.

The ISIS jihadists has methodically killed, abducted and expelled Shiite Muslims and other religious and ethnic minorities during its military apprehension through Iraq. The extremists have forcibly married Yezidi women and girls to ISIS gunmen.

ISIS gunmen carried out a comparable mass execution of Shiite soldiers the day after the June 10 carnage in the city of Tikrit, 225 kilometers south of Badoush. The Islamic State insurgents pronounced to have killed 1,700 Shiite forces in that incident. The ISIS militants posted the videos online that showed their gunmen in an open gunfire at hundreds of captive men.

"While no amount of government negligence excuses the atrocities of ISIS, the authorities need to do all they reasonably can to protect Shia and others from being massacred," Tayler said.

Because of the appalling ISIS execution videos, the Human Rights Watch Organization and the United Nations conducted series of investigations into the crimes committed by the Islamic State terrorists.
