DMV Dismisses Ticket After New York Driver Kills 3 Years Old Toddler, Parents Raise Storm

DMV dismisses ticket - The parents of a 3 years old girl killed by a driver after a hit-and-run accident in Flushing, NY, last year, are demanding justice for their daughter's death after learning that the suspect has had the two traffic tickets issued against him waived.

"You can be very careless on the road, and you're not accountable for it," Hsi-Pei Liao, the father of the late Allison Liao, asked.

In October 2013, Ahmad Abu-Zayedeha, 44, ran over Allison as was she was crossing the Cherry Ave and Main Street interchange in Flushing with her grandmother. The gruesome incident was caught on the dashboard camera of a vehicle parked nearby.

Abu-Zayedeha was subsequently issued two tickets for failing to exercise due care and for not yielding to pedestrians. But in July, the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) dismissed the tickets for unknown reasons.

After finding out that the DMV dismissed the two tickets last week, Liao expressed his anger on his Facebook page.

"Just found out today that the DMV drop the two tickets for failure to yield and failure to use due care, for the driver who ran over my daughters HEAD!!!!!!!

"I'm pissed!!!!!!!" he wrote.

Meanwhile, Allison's mother Amy Liao has questioned why her family was not invited to the hearing where the DMV dismissed the two tickets.

"We're one of the involved parties, you would think that we should be invited to the hearing," she said.

"We want to know if the judge saw the video. We want to know why the charges were dismissed."

Liao has noted that he wants Aby-Zayeheda charged for the death of his daughter. He has also noted that 'something' should be done to the suspect's driver's license.

Although the DMV has dismissed the two tickets against him, Abu-Zayeheda is set to appear in court on Jan. 6th where a ruling would be made about his culpability in the death of Allison. The suspect's driving license could be suspended if he is found guilty.
