Manhattan jewelry heist - Two men wearing masks and carrying automatic weapons have robbed a jewelry store in Manhattan's Diamond District on Tuesday.
New York Police say the suspects behind the Manhattan jewelry heist have not been identified or arrested. The suspects robbed a high-end luxury store Watch Standard Inc., which is located on the eighth floor of a building on 47th Street,
One of the two men is reported to have entered the shop posing as a mail delivery man, while his accomplice acted as a lookout.
According to the NYPD, the jewelry thieves pistol-whipped the 56-year-old owner of the luxury store, before escaping with an unspecified amount of watches, cash and jewelry.
NYPD officers shut down West 47th Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues during the search for the suspects behind the Manhattan jewelry heist. Reports indicate that the cops had suspected the robbers were still in the building.
Officers conducted floor-by-floor searches throughout the eight-storey building. Helicopters, police vehicles, as well as a K-9 and SWAT team also joined the search for the suspects behind the Manhattan jewelry heist.
One of the suspects of the Manhattan jewelry heist has been described as African-American male between 40 to 50 years old. He is believed to be 6 feet tall and was wearing a black trench coat, light colored slacks and tweed colored Kangol hat.
Deputy Chief William Aubry, the head of the NYPD detectives' squad in Manhattan, said the description of the suspect was determined based on footages gathered from surveillance cameras.
The other suspect involved in the Manhattan jewelry heist has also been described as an African-American male between the ages of 30 to 40. He is said to have been wearing a black hoodie, a true black religion jeans, a red baseball cap and black sneakers.
The Manhattan jewelry heist in the Diamond District has been described as rare; given the large security presence in the area, which houses over 4,100 companies.
