Wal-Mart Unveils Black Friday 2014 Deals And Hours While Issuing Urgent Memo Calling Store Managers To Improve Performance

Wal-Mart kicks off its longest Black Friday event. Known as the world's largest retail company, Wal-Mart recently revealed its Black Friday 2014 deals and hours, and also unveiled its best discounts on gadgets, toys and other goods that will be offered over a five-day period at the end of the month until early December.

On Wednesday, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. unveiled its Black Friday plans and deals for the busy Thanksgiving weekend this 2014. The retailer's announcement followed the revelations of Best Buy and Target's unveilings on Tuesday. According to USA Today, Wal-Mart has several remarkable deals in electronics comparable to its two Minnesota-based rivals.

Wal-Mart has decided to expand the once a one-day shopping spectacle to a 5-day extravaganza. It will also break its Black Friday 2014 event into three separate events starting Thanksgiving night. On Wal-Mart.com, the deals will start on Thanksgiving morning and in stores at 6 p.m. Thanksgiving day with additional promotions until Monday.

"Black Friday is no longer about waking up at the crack of dawn to stand in long lines and hope for the best," Walmart U.S. chief merchandising officer Duncan Mac Naughton said.

One reason that Wal-Mart and other major retail companies are expanding out the deals beyond Black Friday 2014 is that numerous shoppers are using their smartphones to compare prices, as reported by ABC News.

"It's more prevalent among consumer electronics," customer research firm CSI Group CEO Sheri Petras said. "It's easier to compare versus fashion where you try it on and you are not exactly sure if the dress that's over here might not be the dress that's over there."

Meanwhile, Wal-Mart headquarters issued an urgent memo calling store managers to improve performance in their meat, dairy and producing departments. According to The New York Times, Wal-Mart issued a "highly sensitive and urgent agenda" memo to managers across the nation last month.

The urgent memo issued to Wal-Mart managers ordered to ensure that aging meat and baked goods are discounted to maximize the chance of the items to be sold before its expiration dates. The memo also added to tell stores to be sure to "rotate" dairy products and eggs by removing expired items and adding new stock at the bottom and back of display cases.

Wal-Mart's Black Friday 2014 extravaganza will first begin at 6 p.m. local time on Thanksgiving Thursday and includes a number of notable deals for video games. The second round kicks off at 8 p.m. local time Thanksgiving night and includes a few door busters of its own, particularly around home entertainment. Walmart's third event of the weekend kicks off at 6 a.m. local time on Black Friday itself and runs until noon. Event 3 is a lot simpler than the earlier events, possibly because there won't be much left 14 hours after the sales begin.

Wal-Mart is joining other retailers in turning Black Friday 2014 from a one-day shopping bonanza to a multiday event that shoppers will surely enjoy, from great deals to discounts. And the 5-day event will definitely bring snowballing revenues to the company.
