In Australia, Karl Stefanovic, one of the cohosts of an everyday television program, revealed that for a year he wore the same blue suit. His admission shocked his colleagues but stressed that it was merely an experiment about the double standard a television personality experienced whenever they are criticized for fashion choices.
Karl Stefanovic, the male cohost of an Australian television program admitted for wearing the same suit for a year on Channel Nine's "Today" show. According to CBS News, no one ever noticed about his odd fashion sense until he publicly revealed his secret experiment.
"No one has noticed; no one gives a sh*t," Stefanovic told The Age. "But women, they wear the wrong color and they get pulled up. They say the wrong thing and there's thousands of tweets written about them."
While no one asked about the same suit he wore for a year, Karl Stefanovic said he was frustrated by the "sexism" targeting his female colleagues, as reported by USA Today. He cited the case of his cohost Lisa Wilkinson, who was regularly commented about and criticized.
"Women are judged much more harshly and keenly for what they do, what they say and what they wear," Karl Stefanovic stated. "I've worn the same suit on air for a year - except for a couple of times because of circumstance - to make a point."
"I'm judged on my interviews, my appalling sense of humour - on how I do my job, basically," Stefanovic continued. "Whereas women are quite often judged on what they're wearing or how their hair is ... that's [what I wanted to test]."
The highly-controversial suit that was worn by Karl Stefanovic for a year was a blue Burberry suit, as ABC News reported.
Karl Stefanovic said that he is still wearing the same blue suit and only two of his "Today" colleagues knew about his experiment.
"They often remark that it's getting a bit stinky," Stefanovic candidly said. "I'm hoping to get it into the dry cleaners at the end of the year."
After Karl Stefanovic's big revelation about wearing the same suit for a year, Lisa Wilkinson said his admission caused social media to go just a little bit crazy.
