Gage Garmo - A 17-year-old Michigan teenager has lost his battle with a rare form of cancer just a day after he had his dream of meeting rapper Eminem fulfilled.
Gage Garmo, a student of the Rochester High School, was reportedly diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer in his freshman year. For the past three years, the teenagers had undergone several forms of treatments, but his condition took a turn for the worse recently and he was given just a week to live.
According to Fox Detroit, a candle light vigil was held for Gage Garmo on the Rochester football field shortly before he died on Monday night. The teenager, who was very popular in school, was reportedly the manager of the football team.
Gage Garmo had always wanted to meet his favorite musician Eminem. And given just a week to live, his friends took it upon themselves to make this happen by spreading word about his condition on social media. They eventually got the assistance of Rainbow Connection - an organization which facilitates the process of granting the wishes of terminally ill children in Michigan.
A GoFundMe page created by his class mates says Gage Garmo had his leg amputated, but this did not stop the cancer, which spread to his lungs and other parts of his body at an "uncontrollable rate." Garmo was eventually given just a few days to live by doctors.
Ingrid Todt, the wish director for Rainbow Connection says Gage Garmo sat up and had a grin on his face when Eminem walked into his family's living room. "His family hadn't seen their son do that in such a long time," Todt said.
Eminem reportedly visited the teenager with his crew including Royce Da 59. Reports indicate that they talked about various topics including sports and music.
Gage's friend Gabbie Ratkowiak described the teenager as "one of the most inspiring people" he has ever met.
