Bruce Irvin Apology: Bruce Irvin Apologies For Unnecessary Super Bowl Brawl

Bruce Irvin Apology - After getting ejected from the Super Bowl XLIX with 18 seconds on the clock, Seattle Seahawks linebacker Bruce Irvin has issued an apology for the fight which ensued with New England players.

Bruce Irvin issued the apology Monday via Twitter. He said although he did not start the Super Bowl brawl, his emotion got the better of him and he was protecting teammate Michael Bennett.

"I want to apologize to all the younger kids for my actions last night. I was trying to protect my brother and it got out of hand," Bruce Irvin tweeted. "It's easy to say u would have been different but in the heat of the moment I just reached when I seen my brother get punched."

"Still not an excuse and I'm truly sorry to all the 12s and my Wcu family for my actions," he wrote.

The incident happened when the New England Patriots were about to clinch the victory with 28-24 on the score board against the Seattle Seahawks, who got too emotional.

It's not clear who exactly started the Super Bowl brawl, however the it began when Patriots quarterback Tom Brady tried to take a knee with just 20 seconds remaining at his 5-yard line.

Things just blew up from there, Irvin got into a tussle with Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski. Shortly after he was pushed from behind by Patriots guard Ryan Wendell, who also got into it with Michael Bennett.

"I was protecting a teammate emotions flew," Irvin said on Sunday after the game. "I saw somebody hit Mike Bennett, so I went and backed up my brother. I went about it wrong. Emotions were flying high, and I apologize."

"But if it happened again, I would go protect my teammate. That's just how it is," he said.

The brawl earned Bruce Irvin a 15-yard unsportsman-like penalty and his ejection from the Super Bowl. The Patriots would go on to clinch the title with the next play.

After the game Gronkowski talked about the fight. "I don't know, they just started coming at us. We were just trying to take a knee."

"It's football, things happen. It's all good. I mean, it's all good. They played ball, they're a hardworking team and we just came out and did what we did to get the win."
