Over the weekend at a nearby beach - just 12 miles away - a shark mauled 32-year-old surfer Jabez Reitman. Rietman sustained injuries to his back and hips.

"It's a terrible tragedy. Everyone in town is just dumbfounded. This shark is just cruising around," said Ballina mayor, David Wright.

"I'm a supporter of sharks but something has to be done about this one."

Authorities are trying to identify the shark, which is suspected to be the same one that attacked Reitman on Sunday.
