Finland Speeding Ticket: Millionaire Outraged After Receiving $60,000 Speeding Ticket

Finland Speeding Ticket - Doubtless he loves being a millionaire, but a Finnish businessman was outraged recently after he was handed a hefty fine for speeding that was supposed to match his annual income.

Reima Kuisla was reportedly caught by traffic officers driving at 64mph in an area where the speed limit is 50mph. In order to reach the appropriate fine for him according to Finnish law, the officers accessed a tax database to assess tax returns and found out that Kuisla made nearly $7 million in 2013. Based on this information, Kuisla was fined about $60,000.

While this is a small fraction of his millions, Kuisla wasn't pleased and has threatened to elope to another country with more agreeable tax laws. "Finland is impossible to live for certain kinds of people who have high incomes and wealth," he wrote on his Facebook page."I'm considering leaving the country."

The story of Kuisla's fine and his furious reaction has gone viral on social media since the local press picked up on it. But many commentators have failed to find any cause to agree with him on this contentious issue.

Interestingly, Kuisla's exorbitant fine isn't the highest ever issued by traffic authorities in the country. In 2002, Nokia director Anssi Vanjoki was fined $103,000 after he was caught driving his Harley Davidson motorbike at 47mph in a 31mph zone. The fine was reportedly based on Vanjoki's earnings for 1999 - $12.5 million.

At the moment, it is unclear where Kuisla was speeding to when he was arrested. It is also unclear if he has paid the $60,000 fine or plans to file an appeal against it in court.
