Samsung Galaxy S3 Threatened by Apple, Facing Possible Ban

Samsung Galaxy S3 is being threatened by Apple from launching in the U.S. market this month by a temporary restraining order Friday. Apple claimed that the iPhone rival Samsung Galaxy S3 infringes Apple’s two patents: U.S. Patent No. 8,086,604 and U.S. Patent No. 5,946,647, which cover “unified search” and “links for structures.”

In a respond to this, Samsung is fighting back and said they can prove that their device is “innovative and distinctive.” Samsung added that Apple’s move is just out of fear of this new Samsung Galaxy S3 and that the iPhone-maker just wants to “prevent a phone from getting to the public that is better than Apple’s in many, many respects,” according to Samsung counselor Bill Price.

"Samsung believes Apple's request is without merit. We would also like to assure consumers that the U.S. launch and sales of the Galaxy S III will proceed as planned," Samsung said, according to Reuters.

This dispute is just a small part of the patent war between Apple with the South Korean tech giant. In February, Apple accused Samsung Galaxy Nexus to have infringed Apple’s four patents. The iPhone maker also alleges 29 devices from HTC, including One X, One S, and EVO 4G LTE, infringing Apple’s data tapping patent. Both Samsung and HTC do not admit Apple’s accusation, and they both confidence about their devices.

Since it was launched on May 29 in Europe, the Samsung Galaxy S3 is moving ahead of Apple’s iPhone, based on many market research firms’ report. 5 Major carriers in United States – AT&T, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular, Sprint, and Verizon Wireless – have already planned to carry the Samsung Galaxy S3 in the next few weeks, starting at around $200 with a 2 years contract.
