'Star Wars’ Spin-off: Chris Pratt To Star As Han Solo In The New Walt Disney Film?

A Solo film for "Star Wars" smuggler-turned-hero Han! Walt Disney Co. made the "Star Wars" spin-off announcement a few days before the San Diego Comic Con.

There's no casting call yet for the new film. However, Chris Pratt of "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "Jurassic World" was immediately speculated to take on the role.

"Folks, let's be honest: Chris Pratt isn't just the best person to play Han Solo; he IS Han Solo. There is Chris Pratt ... and everyone else," @cmclymer tweeted.

This new untitled film, slated to be released in 2018, is part of Disney's determined attempt to reboot the "Star Wars" franchise. The Multinational Mass Media and Entertainment Company bought the rights from George Lucas in 2012 for $4.05 billion.

The Han Solo film is an addition to the new film trilogy that begins with "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens," to be released this December. The movie will be the second "Star Wars" stand-alone film, after the release of "Rogue One," according to ABC.net.

In the original "Star Wars" film, this character — made famous by Harrison Ford — was introduced as a former smuggler who took Luke Skywalker in his Millennium Falcon, helping him escape Darth Vader.

The film will focus on the early life of Solo, before he became the thief and smuggler whom Obi-Wan Kenobi and Skywalker met in the cantina at Mos Eisly, CNN has learned.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller of "Lego Movie," "21 Jump Street" and "22 Jump Street" will be directing the spin-off movie, News.com reported.

"We promise to take risks, to give the audience a fresh experience, and we pledge ourselves to be faithful stewards of these characters who mean so much to us," Miller and Lord said in a joint statement.

Lawrence Kasdan, co-writer of "Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back" "Star Wars VI: The Return of the Jedi" and "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens" will write the screenplay together with his son, Jon Kasdan.

The film is scheduled to be released on May 25, 2018.
