“Fifty Shades” Merchandise to Arrive in Stores This Year

Fans of the hit trilogy, "Fifty Shades of Grey," written by EL James will be in for quite a surprise in just a few months, when "Fifty Shades" merchandise hits stores.

Products based on the "Fifty Shades" phenomenon will arrive in stores between August and December of this year. The merchandise will include apparel, stationery items (Journals and diaries), hosiery, lingerie and accessories.

The accessories include items like bags, wallets, portfolios, key chains and underwear (for men and women). Fans should also be ready for "Christian Grey" boxers and ties, as well as lounge wear, sleepwear and T-shirts.

"We believe the response to the products will be as phenomenal as the book trilogy," said CarolePostal, president of CopCorp Licensing, an agency that specializes in the development of brand, character, art, publishing and entertainment-based licensing, and is the agent for the U.S. market for the "Fifty Shades" brand.

Postal did not disclose any figures but stated that her company will ensure that the "Fifty Shades" merchandise is stylish, sleek and in keeping with the characteristics of the book, adding that the products would be marketed nationwide in appropriate retailers.

"Fifty Shades of Grey," "Fifty Shades of Darker," and "Fifty Shades Feed" are the top three, respectively, on USA TODAY's Best-Selling Books list, for seven weeks straight. Readers are introduced to Literature student Anastasia Steele and the young entrepreneur Christian Grey. The innocent Anastasia is introduced to Christian's enigmatic ways and his interest in BDSM (Bondage and Discipline, Sadism and Masochism) and begins thus their unconventional display of desire.

In the U.S. and Canada, the trilogy has sold 15 million copies.
