During the Google I/O opening keynote, Google announced plenty of new things to heighten the excitement of consumers. One of the highlighted aspects is the Nexus 7 that will run on Android 4.1 "Jelly Bean" operating system.
The specs reveal that the Nexus 7 is 7 inches and features a 1280 x 800 HD display with a pixel density of 216 pixels-per-inch, which is only slightly lower than the iPad 3 with its 264 pixels-per-inch screen density. The screen is covered with what has been described as "scratch-resistant Corning glass," which can be assumed to be a form of Gorilla Glass.
The new Nexus 7 tablet is powered by a quadcore Tegra 3 processor and comes with either 8GB or 16 GB of internal storage and 1GB of RAM. It is also powered by a 4,325mAh battery, offering up to 8 hours of active use.
The tablet features a front-facing 1.2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, a micro USB port and NFC.
The 8GB model will cost $199, while the 16GB device will be priced at $249. The price includes $25 credit to spend in the Google Play store, plus a copy of Transformers Dark of the Moon.
Google has started taking pre-orders now and the Nexus 7 tablets will ship in the next two weeks.
