Kate Middleton to Sleep on Streets: Homeless for Charity?

Kate Middleton fans were excited to learn that she would be sleeping on the streets to raise awareness of London's growing homeless population, but a spokesperson for the Duchess of Cambridge announced Friday that this is simply a rumor.

It was rumored that she was supposed to take on the challenge with British actress Lisa Maxwell, who is the ambassador for the Centrepoint "Sleep Out", a campaign that raises awareness about London's increasing homeless population.

"There are no plans for the Duchess to sleep out for Centrepoint," the spokesperson tells PEOPLE. "She doesn't have any official role with Centrepoint, but will obviously continue to support the Duke in his patronage of the charity."

Maxwell told the Daily Mirror that she met Middleton through Centrepoint patron, Prince William.

"She asked me about sleeping out, so I said: 'Next time I do it, you're doing it with me. No excuses, [William has] done it.'" Maxwell said to USmagazine.com. "She said 'You're on.'"

William took to the streets in December 2009 where he dedicated time to the homeless who slept by Blackfriar's Bridge.

"He was determined to do it as [Centrepoint] patron to raise awareness of the problem and to be able to understand a little better what rough sleepers go through," Centrepoint's chief executive Seyi Obakin said.

Only several weeks ago Middleton roughed it out in the woods with a group of young volunteers for the Widehorizons Margaret McMillan House. Fans thought her rumored participation in Centerpoint's "Sleep Out" would be a second attempt at her efforts in making a difference in London's communities.
