Benicio Del Toro Eyed As 'Star Wars: Episode VIII' Villain — Is He A Yay Or A Nay?

"Star Wars: Episode VIII" has offered Benicio Del Toro a yet unknown villain role.

The Wrap reported that discussions were still premature, but both Lucasfilm and Disney have set their eyes on the Oscar-winning actor. However, representatives from Disney have yet to make a statement about the rumors.

As for "Traffic" actor Benicio Del Toro, he would fit right in as a "Star Wars" villain since he has the capability to create a menacing look at will. He would also progress director J.J Abram's ("Force Awakens")  various visions for the "Star Wars" world, which will be spearheaded by John Boyega, Oscar Isaac and Daisy Ridley who will return for Star "Wars: Episode VIII" to face yet another villain or more.

Whether Benicio Del Toro signs up for "Star Wars: Episode VIII" as the main villain, shooting will start early next year ahead of a May 26, 2017 release. Rian Johnson will take on the new challenge of directing the film, with Ram Bergman producing together with Kathy Kennedy of Lucasfilms.

According to IGN, Del Toro has worked for Disney via his role as The Collector in "Guardians of the Galaxy." It just goes to show that Del Toro may be interested in genre projects such as "Star Wars: Episode VIII." It was also rumored that he was tapped to join "Star Trek Into Darkness" to play the role of Khan, though the role landed on Benedict Cumberbatch's lap.

Entertainment Weekly revealed that there are several actors added to the mix for "Star Wars: Episode VIII" villain role, and there's no need to make rash decisions. From what they gathered from their sources of the chances of Benicio Del Toro grabbing a villain role, reactions varied from  "maaaaaaybe," that ends with a question mark and "doubtful" with dots of ellipses.

Even "Star Wars" fans have varied reactions about Benicio Del Toro being casted as a "Star Wars: Episode VIII" villain. One commenter, HumanoidSharks said on IGN, "Del Toro is an amazing actor. His involvement would be a huge win." While triguous commented, "I wish they'd get someone who's not already attached to a blockbuster franchise. That and del Toro is kind of terrible as The Collector."
