Airbus U.S. Assembly to Create 1,000 new Jobs

Airbus, the largest exporter for the U.S aerospace industry, announced Monday that it will be creating a manufacturing facility in the United States to assemble and deliver A320 Family aircraft.

The Brookley Aeroplex in Mobile, Alabama will be Airbus' first production facility located in the U.S.

Airbus hopes that the assembly line will promote an improved economy, create new jobs, and advance the aerospace industry. The company is also attempting to strengthen their global competitiveness by expanding its reach into the United States.

"This decision is great news for our industry partnerships in the U.S., and it supports Airbus' strategy on several fronts," said Fabrice Bregier, Airbus President & CEO, to Market Watch.com. "This facility creates new manufacturing jobs and further enhances the partnership between Airbus, its suppliers and their employees - a very large percentage of which are located here in the United States. We and the supplier partners with whom we work will be establishing a new aerospace center of competency in a region that has endured great difficulty in recent years."

The facility will assemble the family A319, A320 and A321 aircraft. Creation of the assembly line will start next summer and assembly of aircrafts are planned to begin in 2015. Deliveries are due to start in 2016. Airbus predicts that the new facility will be capable of creating close to 50 aircraft annually by 2018.

Airbus says the new assembly line is predicted to create up to 1,000 new jobs.

The company hopes that this expansion to the United States will help it continue to be one of the world's leaders in aircraft manufacturing.
