‘Angry Birds 2’ Updates, Gameplay & Reviews: Sequel Reaches 10 Million Download Hits; Game’s In-App Purchases And Limited Lives Disappoint Gamers

Development studio Rovio Entertainment announced that downloads for "Angry Birds 2," the second major installment in its popular "Angry Birds" mobile game series, has reached 10 million.

This is certainly considered as a good indicator for the studio and the game since the sequel just came out on July 30.

According to Eric Seufert, the studio's vice president, the company's original plan for "Angry Birds 2" was to reach 10 million downloads within the first month of its release, Market Watch has learned.

But, based on the game's status, Rovio has successfully surpassed that mark. In fact, only 12 hours after the game debuted, it was already downloaded by over a million users, Game Planet reported.

Despite the success of the game, a number of gamers were disappointed with some of its mechanics. "Angry Birds 2" still features the same gameplay, which involves flinging birds against pigs and structures using a giant slingshot.

However, Rovio made a few changes to the game such as limiting the number of lives players get. When they use these up, they won't be able to advance to a new level. Instead, they will have to wait for about 30 minutes for the game to replenish their lives.

But, for those who are impatient, they can make an in-app purchase using digital currency to buy more lives, USA Today reported.

From Rovio's standpoint, this may seem like a fair trade-off since "Angry Birds 2" was released through Apple's App Store and Google Play as a free game.

These changes, however, were not positively received by gamers. Some found it disappointing while others said they would rather pay for "Angry Birds 2" with no in-app purchases than download it for free because of its in-game transactions.

"One of the best mechanics of the previous games was being able to restart levels and play them again or try a different tactic as many times as you want," user Pokkju wrote on the iTunes Customer Reviews section.

"If you want to do that in this game, you better have some big pockets or lots of iTunes credits," the user added.

Apart from the game's in-app transactions, other gamers complained that "Angry Birds 2" crashes and sometimes its load times take too long.
