Emma Stone Reveals That Acting Helped Overcome Her Panic Attacks

Actress Emma Stone has definitely come a long way in her career. From a young age, she knew acting was what she was meant to do but the key reason is made clear in a recent interview with Vogue magazine. Stone revealed that she overcame her panic attacks with acting.

The 23-year-old actress was born in Scottsdale, Arizona and apparently grew up with some personal insecurities. She explained that she had a panic attack when she was eight.

"My mom couldn't put notes in my lunch because I would be reminded that she existed and I would want to go home. And I was sick all the time," Stone said.

Stone eventually went to through therapy to help her with the problem she had.

"When I went through therapy, I tried improv for the first time, and I think there was some cathartic element to it," she said.

Stone decided to be cast in a school play and perform on stage to help her gain confidence, and she told Bliss magazine, "It hit me really hard. It freaked me out and I couldn't leave my mom's side, but then I remembered how good it felt to be on stage; 'I met other people like me, who liked the same things I liked. It became this place where I could be myself and express myself.'"

She later convinced her parents to let her drop out of school at the age of 14 and begin auditioning for film roles so she could pursue her passion.

"It gave me a sense of purpose. I wanted to make people laugh. Comedy was my sport. It taught me how to roll with the punches," Stone said.

After launching her career and playing roles in several television shows and movies, her big break was when she landed her first leading role in 2010, in a comedy film called, Easy A. She was nominated for the 2011 Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy for her role.

She has attained so much success in her career of acting, but even after all of this, she still fears it at the same time, telling Vogue, "I worry about my fame making New York unliveable. To not walk around would be awful .  .  . that idea makes me physically ill."

Stone's latest film appearance was in The Amazing Spider-Man, playing as Peter Parker's love interest, Gwen Stacy. The film was released on July 3, 2012 and raked in $140 million at the box office in its first six days.
