Camila Alves, the 33-year-old wife of actor Matthew McConaughey, has officially became a naturalized American citizen on Tuesday, Aug. 4. The McConaughey brood was in full force supporting Alves after the naturalization process.
To commemorate the event, both Matthew McConaughey, 45, and his wife Camila Alves took to social media to share the good news, Us Weekly noted.
"Congratulations Camila on getting your U.S. citizenship today," McConaughey tweeted, along with their family pic taken after the naturalization process. "Another fellow and great American." While Alves wrote, "Happy to say I now hold an American passport! I have so much respect and appreciation for this country. #newuscitizen"
Fans might just know Camila Alves as Matthew McConaughey's wife, but the Brazilian-American model and designer is more than just a drop-dead gorgeous beauty. She has an interesting life and here are 5 facts we learned about Alves.
1. Camila Alves and Matthew McConaughey started dating in 2007 before getting married in June 2012. They have 3 adorable kids: 7 year-old Levi, 5-year-old Vida and 2-year-old Livingston. The couple and their children are currently living in Austin, Texas, as per Fox News Latino.
2. Alves came to the U.S. from Brazil at the age of 15. She started out working as a maid and a waitress, New York Daily News reported. Before becoming a successful model, she waited tables and cleaned houses for four years.
"My father always told me, 'Before you become a queen you have to learn how to take care of your own things," Alves told "The View" in 2013. "So I knew how to do all of it, but I had never really done it on a daily basis. So I was cleaning houses and I started working restaurants."
3. Alves grew up in a farming family in Belo Horizonte in Brazil. According to Daily Mail, she visited her aunt in California at the age of 15 and decided she was not going back. Since then, she has never looked back.
4. At the age of 19 and after years of hard work, Matthew McConaughey's wife Camila Alves moved to New York to pursue a career in modelling. As a model, she worked in Paris, Milan and many others, The Stir has learned.
"Modeling has not only paid my bills but taken me around the world, from Paris to Milan to China and Africa, and many destinations in between," she said on her website. "I have never been a "fashion follower" so to speak, but I have always known what I liked, what I did not, and why.
5. Camilla Alves is a designer. In her official website, she and her mother decided to create handbags. Eventually, they proudly launched their MUXO collection, which are handmade by Camila and her mom.
