‘Scandal’ Season 5 [SPOILERS ALERT!]: ABC’s Political Thriller To Focus On Olivia & Fitz’s Love Affair In Crisis?

"Scandal" Season 5 will definitely be more interesting as more twists are expected when its new season premieres this September. As showrunner Shonda Rhimes decided to concentrate on Olivia (Kerry Washington) and Fitz's (Tony Goldwyn) love affair, a crisis will be expected to ignite.

While Olivia and Fitz finally decided to be together in "Scandal" Season 5 amid a political ascension, their relationship will face a conflict, particularly when the former president discovers that it was Liv who leaked the names of the grand juror, who was later killed by her own henchman, Huck (Guillermo Diaz), as previously reported.

Rhimes, however, said that Olivia and Fitz's romance will be the only good thing in "Scandal" Season 5. According to International Business Times, the fifth season of the show will begin from where the previous season ended, which was during Liv and Fitz's kissing tryst on the Truman balcony.

"The world had been fairly blown apart for everybody except Olivia and Fitz," Rhimes said during the Television Critics Association's press tour. "Everybody else was in a fairly blown apart place... We pick up right there in that environment and we see what's happens next."

"Cyrus no longer working in the White House..." Rhimes added. "Mellie is no longer living in the White House, Jake said he was walking away... Quinn was thinking about killing Huck.... We pick up right there in that environment. And we see what happens next."

The show creator also hinted the possibility of a divorce between Fitz and Mellie (Bellamy Young).

"For me, what's exciting is exploring the possibility of really seeing what happens next versus doing the thing I think everyone expects us to do, which is bounce everybody back into the place that they were," she said.

As "Scandal" Season 5 delves into Olivia and the President's romance, Mellie will be more independent and ruthless in the upcoming season, Latinos Post revealed. While fans will love Vice President Ross more and Fitz will be in the worst state. Quinn (Katie Lowes), on the other hand, might actually have her own plotline in the series' upcoming season, Bustle noted.

Meanwhile, "Scandal" star Tony Goldwyn is reportedly directing an episode of the upcoming series, Design & Trend reported. The actor, who plays the role of President Fitz, recently shared a video on his Instagram account confirming that he will be directing "Scandal" Season 5 Episode 2.

"Scandal" Season 5 is indeed getting more interesting. So, don't forget to watch its season premiere on Sept. 24 at 9 p.m. ET.
