iOS 9 Updates, News & Release Date: Beta 5 For Developers Now Available, Comes With Expanded Wi-Fi Support, New Interface Features

In preparation for the final release of its next operating system platform, Apple has officially rolled out the fifth beta version of the iOS 9 for developers.

Like in previous releases, the latest version comes with several new features that developers can try out.

Probably the most significant addition brought in by the iOS 9 Beta 5 is Wi-Fi calling support for AT&T's network. Previously, the firmware only came with Wi-Fi calling options for Sprint and T-Mobile, 9to5Mac reported.

Although the option has been added, the service is not yet available. Apple promised that it will activate the feature soon once the final version of the platform is finally released.

Aside from this, the Beta 5 also comes with Wi-Fi assist. This feature automatically turns on the device's cellular data once it detects that the Wi-Fi connectivity in a certain area is weak or unstable. According to The Verge, this addition solves a common issue faced by iPhone users when their devices instantly connect to any Wi-Fi network despite its poor signal.

Another feature of the iOS 9's latest beta version is the Shuffle All option for Apple Music. Located at the panel above the My Music tab, this mode shuffles all songs inside the music library.

The latest update also comes with a simplified keyboard design that features new backspace and shift keys. The CarPlay interface also received an update with a new option to like songs through the heart button. The icons of the different tabs were also enlarged.

Apple also changed the function of the Handoff feature. Originally, this option provided users with suggestions for apps from the App Store. But in the latest update, this feature now displays installed apps when the device is in lock screen mode.

Lastly, the fifth beta version of the iOS 9 comes with 15 new wallpaper themes. These range from colorful images of animals and flowers to photos of planets.

As noted by Mac Rumors, Beta 5 marks the last stages of the iOS 9's development. Apple will probably release another update within the next few weeks before officially releasing it next month.
