‘Persona 5’ Announcement Expected At D23 Expo? Release Date, Characters, Gameplay, Plot — What We Know So far

Atlus Co. Ltd was a no show at the 2015 E3, which disappointed many fans. Up to this point, details about the release of "Persona 5" is still scarce, but gamers are hopeful that an announcement will be made in the upcoming D23 Expo in Japan on Aug. 14-16.

Meanwhile, here are the details about the release date, gameplay, plot and characters that we know so far.

"Persona 5" will have more similarities to previous installments, Latinos Post has learned. The game appears to be more artistic and up-to-date while sticking with its original gameplay style.

The upcoming "Persona" gameplay will still have the role playing feature, according to Cross Map. The characters are reportedly going to have darker and deeper personalities, which an unknown entity will be constantly chasing.

The main character goes by the name "The Phantom." That's only in the night, though, because during the day, he's just this normal, laid-back teenage boy who just transferred to Tokyo's Shunjin High School.

Reports say that he looks like Arsene Lupin and when he turns to "The Phantom," he dons this birdlike mask as he wields knives and pistols. He will be joined by Ryuji Sakamoto, a guy wearing a skull mask and uses shotguns and Anne Takamaki, who's wearing a cat mask with whips and machine guns.

Talking about characters, it has been rumored that a new gay character will be added in "Persona 5." Here's what Yu Namba, Senior Manager of Atlus, has to say about it:

"I can't speak for the game's reception in Japan since I don't have a direct line of feedback to that audience. However, looking past the story of Persona 4, Kanji's choice of words, actions, and you know, him leaning toward the player's direction... they focus on character development."

Kanji Tatsumi is a character in "Persona 4: Dancing All Night." He was described Gematsu as having a tough exterior but has a soft spot for anything that's cute.

"I think that that's a great thing that the development team at Atlus has done with the existing characters," the senior manager added.

"Persona 5," together with "Final Fantasy VII Remake" and "Dreams," will be released in 2016 in PS4 as per an advertisement released by Sony, according to Video Gamer. However, Atlus is yet to make an announcement of the official release date.
