Winona Ryder Confirms ‘Beetlejuice 2’ Is Happening! Sequel to Reunite Michael Keaton And Tim Burton [VIDEO]

During her appearance on "Late Night with Seth Meyers" on Monday, Winona Ryder confirmed that she will reprise her role in the "Beetlejuice" film sequel.

With her onboard, it seems development of "Beetlejuice 2" is ready to begin since original cast member Michael Keaton and director Tim Burton will also join the project.

While speaking with host Seth Meyers, Ryder discussed the existence of the sequel and said that she will be part of the movie. The actress, however, did not go into detail regarding the possible plot of "Beetlejuice 2" or when it will enter production, Uproxx reported.

In the original 1988 film, Ryder played the role of Lydia Deetz, the Goth teenage daughter of Catherine O'Hara and Jeffrey Jones' characters. Things go awry for the Deetz family after moving to a home haunted by its former owners, played by Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis.

As an attempt to scare away the family, Baldwin and Davis' characters summon Beetlejuice, portrayed by Keaton.

Earlier in January, Hollywood producer Seth Grahame-Smith revealed to Entertainment Weekly that Burton will return to direct the sequel.

The producer also noted that Burton has already worked on the initial drafts for the "Beetlejuice 2" script. In addition, Grahame-Smith said that Keaton is also excited to reprise his role as the titular character.

"I've emailed with Michael Keaton," he told the news publication. "I know he's excited about the idea. I know Tim is excited about the idea."

"Where it stands now is Tim's got to get ready to make ['Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children'], and then hopefully we are set, deals are done and we're waiting in the wings ready to go right after 'Peregrine's' wraps up," Grahame-Smith continued.

The producer then added that he and Burton are targeting to release the second "Beetlejuice" film before the year ends.

Once "Beetlejuice 2" happens, it will mark Keaton and Burton's first movie project since 1992. Aside from the horror-comedy film, the two also worked together on 1989's "Batman" and its sequel, "Batman Returns," Cinemablend has learned.
