"Frozen" fans might have been left baffled after it was hinted that Disney's King and Queen of Arendelle were not killed off during the shipwreck. In fact, they were washed away to an island and lived in a jungle, where they had a son. And co-director Chris Buck claimed it's the king of the jungle, Tarzan.
In the traditional Disney format, the death of Anna and Elsa's parents in the box-office hit animated film "Frozen" has been depressing to all its fans. However, there seems to be an interesting twist in the story. According to USA Today's For The Win, the beloved Arendelle royals survived the storm and the shipwreck. After overcoming insurmountable odds, they were able to rebuild their lives and have a child.
Interestingly, "Frozen" co-director Chris Buck revealed a more depressing scenario where the king and queen finally met their end. As Buck described, Anna and Elsa's parents were mauled by a leopard, leaving their son to be raised by gorillas and unaware that he has two sisters.
Buck's interesting revelation hinted a family connection between two Disney films, "Frozen" and "Tarzan."
In his interview with MTV News, Chris Buck was asked to elaborate on his co-director Jennifer Lee's revelation in a 2014 Reddit AMA that he believed Elsa and Anna's parents did not die at sea as depicted in the movie, "Frozen."
"According to Chris, they didn't die on the boat (but) got washed up on a shore in a jungle island," Lee said during the interview, New York Daily News quoted. "The queen gave birth to a baby boy. They build a treehouse. They get eaten by a leopard..."
So this week, Buck explained and went into detail about the theory Lee revealed to MTV, The Hollywood Reporter noted.
"When you're working on a feature, you have a lot of time to think about stuff because it takes four years to make one," Buck explained. "I think Jen and I were walking to a meeting, and I just start to tell her the entire story."
"Of course Anna and Elsa's parents didn't die," he added. "Yes, there was a shipwreck, but they were at sea a little bit longer than we think they were because the mother was pregnant, and she gave birth on the boat, to a little boy. They get shipwrecked, and somehow they really washed way far away from the Scandinavian waters, and they end up in the jungle."
"They end up building a treehouse and a leopard kills them, so their baby boy is raised by gorillas," Buck continued. "So in my little head, Anna and Elsa's brother is Tarzan."
There is no official connection between the animated films "Frozen" and "Tarzan," but Buck encouraged fans to believe his theory if that made them happy. Also included in his interesting theory are the penguins, linking in a third movie he's directed.
"If you want to tie them all together, then do it," he said. "That's the spirit of Disney... On the other side of that island are surfing penguins, to tie in a non-Disney movie, Surf's Up. That's my fun little world."
