'Once Upon A Time' Season 5: 5 Intriguing Facts About Merida, The Newest Character In Storybrooke

Details about "Once Upon A Time" Season 5 have focused on Emma's transformation into the dark side, but there is another character to look forward to in the coming season which will make the show more interesting to watch.

As per Entertainment Weekly, the newest character to come and join the personalities in Storybrooke is Merida, the princess with a defiant character and flaming red hair from "Brave."

"Once Upon A Time" executive producer Edward Kitsis described Merida as "a spitfire like [she was in] the movie. If she's not your favorite new character this year, I won't know what to say. She's a lot of fun."

Executive producer Adam Horowitz added, "This is the first Pixar character on the show. It's a character Eddy and I have loved since the movie came out. We're very excited to include her in the show."

Here are 5 intriguing facts about Storybrooke's newest resident, Merida.

  1. Merida will be portrayed by Amy Manson, a Scottish actress who has appeared in the TV series Atlantis, as per IMDb.

  2. Merida will greet audiences in the premiere episode of "Once Upon A Time" Season 5. Horowitz said that fans of the ABC show will meet the redhaired princess "some time after the events of the movie. We're going to give you a little taste of where she's been since then, what's happened to her since the end of that movie, and then we're going to see that that somehow crosses with our people and with our "Once Upon a Time" mythology."

  3. Merida will also have a first encounter with Jennifer Morrison's Emma Swan before she meets the rest of the villains and heroes of Storybrooke.

  4. She is NOT the unborn child of Robin Hood portrayed by Sean Maguire and Zelena played by Rebecca Mader. Horowitz said, "It's just a fun theory, but the reality is we are sticking to the canon of the movie Brave in terms of who her parents are and where she came from," as per Inquisitr.

  5. Merida is also definitely not the mother of Robert Carlyle's Rumple character. Although the show did release bogus casting sides, their differences in personality may come into play as Season 5 progresses.
