Orlando Scandrick's injury seems to be bad news for the top cornerback of the Dallas Cowboys. During a team practice on Tuesday, Scandrick was carted off the field because of an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear, which is considered as a season-ending injury.
According to secondary coach Jerome Henderson, Scandrick immediately knew that his right knee injury was an ACL tear, The Washington Post noted.
"He said immediately 'It's my ACL. I know it. It's gone.' I hope that's not the case," Henderson told Dallascowboys.com. "I hope he's just really dramatic - I hope he's just really, really dramatic. So I've got my fingers crossed, and we all said a little prayer for him. We're hopeful he'll be okay."
Following an MRI examination, however, Orlando Scandrick's injury was confirmed along with some other bad news. The NFL athlete did not only tore his ACL but his medial collateral ligament (MCL) was also damaged, which means two knee ligaments were torn, Fox Sports revealed. Because of this, he will be spending the rest of the year recovering from his upcoming surgery.
When the team's practice ended on Tuesday, where Scandrick got his knee injury, the other defensive backs formed a circle for a prayer.
"I heard it in his voice," cornerback Morris Claiborne said. Claiborne has had injury issues last year. "After just sitting there and looking at him and just holding his hand, squeezing. I know that feeling."
While Lucky Whitehead said that he bent down when he thought Orlando Scandrick was going to hit him when the receiver came out of a route.
"I kind of felt it," Whitehead said. "I heard him make a noise."
Orlando Scandrick, who was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the fifth round of the 2008 draft, will definitely miss the entire NFL season because of his injury. As per Sports Illustrated, the 28-year-old athlete was Dallas' top cornerback last season. And in May, he signed a one-year extension worth $9.5 million. Last season, he recorded 55 tackles and two interceptions.
Meanwhile, Orlando Scandrick's injury and absence will be very challenging to Cowboys' position in the league. Though fourth-year player Corey White on waivers from New Orleans and undrafted second-year player Tyler Patmon can help, the team's defensive backfield still remains unsure.
