Will McWhopper End The Burger War Between McDonald’s And Burger King? Ceasefire And World Peace Offering Remain Grim After McDonald’s Rebuffs Proposal

Since the International Day of Peace is coming and will be commemorated on Sept. 21, global hamburger fast food chain Burger King has made an interesting proposal to collaborate and create the "McWhopper" to McDonald's, the world largest hamburger fast food restaurant. On Wednesday, Burger King's proposal was set up in order to raise funds to promote world peace.

Unfortunately, McDonald's rebuffed Burger King's "McWhopper" proposal, which is also intended to put a ceasefire to the burger war of the two fast food companies. According to The Christian Science Monitor, McDonald's rejected the joint, one-day venture to combine Burger King's Whopper and the company's Big Mac.

In an effort to show their willingness to compromise, Burger King went all the way down to the details, even went as far as creating a possible recipe for the "McWhopper." Aside from the recipe, Burger King also planned the custom uniforms and the location, which is Atlanta, a half-way point between the two corporate headquarters.

Everything appeared to be an even split about Burger King's "McWhopper" proposal but McDonald's still rejected the offer even though proceeds would be donated to Peace One Day, a nonprofit organization that aims to make an "annual day of global unity."

Meanwhile, McDonald's Chief Executive Officer Steve Easterbrook has released a statement via Facebook about Burger King's "McWhopper" proposal. Bloomberg noted that Easterbrook said that two largest hamburger chains could do better than just a hybrid sandwich. He also stressed that the war analogy between McDonald's and Burger King has been exaggerated.

"We love the intention but think our two brands could do something bigger to make a difference," Easterbrook wrote on Facebook. "We commit to raise awareness worldwide, perhaps you'll join us in a meaningful global effort? And every day, let's acknowledge that between us there is simply a friendly business competition and certainly not the unequaled circumstances of the real pain and suffering of war."

Burger King's Senior Global Brand Management Vice President Fernando Machado, on the other hand, has released his own statement regarding the proposed "McWhopper" plan.

 "Let's make history and generate a lot of noise around Peace Day," Machado said, as The Independent quoted. "If they say no, we'll hopefully have, at the very least, raised much-needed financial support and consciousness for the great cause that is Peace One Day."

While McDonald's seems to be reluctant about Burger King's "McWhopper" proposal, it is yet to officially decline or reject the offer.
