4 Tips on How to Get a Promotion

January, June, and July were found to be the three months in which employees are most likely to receive promotions, according to data gathered from LinkedIn. However, if you feel like a promotion is deserved but your employer just may be taking much longer than you'd like to give it to you, here are a few tips that can help you land that promotion without you having to come right out and ask for it:

1. Be your own biggest cheerleader:

Actions speak louder than words here. When trying to receive a promotion, make sure that you are doing your best work on a daily basis and have been working well with your colleagues regularly.

Documenting your accomplishments is important and even preparing a small presentation to show your boss how you've been an asset to the company can really go a long way also. Provide concrete numbers and specific examples to show how much growth you've helped the company achieve.

2. Make friends in high places:

Most people hope to advance in their careers and to help do so it is important that you network with those in higher positions. It doesn't hurt to even reach out to people in the position you are hoping to one day land yourself. You can do this by going to lunch with these workmates to learn more about what they do or even shadowing them as they perform tasks that may be relevant to you once you land that promotion.

3. Become skillful in new things:

Show your boss that you have no plans of remaining stagnant in your position by attending company workshops and training sessions. Even consider taking classes to become better at your job or proficient in another task relevant to your job.

4. Be the best at your current position:

It is important that you are the best that you can be at whatever position you are currently in, as this builds confidence within your boss that you are capable of taking on even more responsibilities.
