‘Thor 3: Ragnarok’: Mads Mikkelsen & 4 Other Actors Who Could Nail Chris Hemsworth’s On-Screen Villain Surtur

"Thor 3: Ragnarok" is slated to be released on Nov. 3, 2017, and ahead of its premiere fans couldn't help but speculate on who is going to play or technically give voice to Chris Hemsworth's supervillain in this new installment. Below are five actors who could nail the role.

1. Mads Mikkelsen

"Hannibal" actor Mads Mikkelsen could not only lend his voice to Sutur, he could also play the part (provided he will be edited to appear way larger than Hemsworth. But if he were to voice the character, his voice would only need a little tweaking to make it sound louder. Apart from starring in Rihanna's controversial music video for "B-h Better Have My Money," Mikkelsen is set to star in "Doctor Strange" and "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story."

2. Keith David

Best known for his role as the director of the CIA in "Agent Cody Banks," David has made a mark in the entertainment industry not only as a television and film star, but also as a voice actor. He has voiced a number of characters including Dr. Facilier in "The Princess and the Frog." He has also done some voice acting stint for video games such as the "Halo 5: Guardians." Hopefully, David can find time to voice Surtur given that he's got nine projects to work on in the following months, including "American Dresser," "The Nice Guys" and "Nat Turner: Story of A Prophet," among others.

3. Rick D. Wasserman

“Planet Hulk” actor Wasserman could also do the character justice since he’s the original voice actor to give life to the villain in “Thor: God of Thunder” the video game. He even voiced Thor in the video games “Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds” and in “Marvel Heroes.” He also voiced the God of Thunder in the TV series “The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.” His credentials primarily involve voice acting for video games.

4. Tony Todd

“Candyman” star Tony Todd could also deliver a stellar performance either by physically playing Surtur or by simply voicing the character. He is currently playing Zoom in The CW’s “The Flash,” and he has also lent his voice to a number of video game characters. Just like David, Todd’s schedule is also crammed with several projects, including “Nightmare City,” “Night of the Living Dead: Darkest Dawn,” and “Two Faced.”

5. Ian McDiarmid

McDiarmid is known for playing Supreme Chancellor Palpatine in the “Star Wars” films including “Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith,” “Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones” and “Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace.” In 2014, he starred in “37 Days” and “Utopia.” The Scottish actor has yet to engage in new movies in the recent years, so perhaps it’s time for him to return to the big screen with this project.

"Thor 3: Ragnarok" has been confirmed to follow the direction of the comic books where it was based from. Executive producer has been quoted as saying by MoviePilot: "I think that in the comic book the sort of end of days, Armageddon aspect is probably the direction in which it will all head in." Given that the title of the third installment hints at Ragnarok, fans of the film franchise will be introduced to fire demon Surtur in the upcoming movie.

Surtur is one force to be reckoned with. He is a 1,000-feet tall and he is way stronger than Thor. While the God Of Thunder has a hammer, Surture flaunst his Sword of Doom known as Twilight.

According to Marvel.com, Surtur, who has the special ability of transforming his fingers into serpents, is one of the most powerful enemies of the Asgards, alongside Ymir the Frost Giant and the Midgard Serpent. Because of this Surtur is considered as the mortal enemy of Thor and his father, the Asgardian ruler Odin.

In the Ragnarok cycle, Surtur will try to destroy the entire Asgard, but Odin, Thor and Loki will work together to defeat the fiery beast. Fans are already anticipating this face-off. Given the size of Sutur however, it wouldn't come as a surprise if this character would be made through CGI. Hence, the franchise could be looking for voice actors to play the part.

So far, the confirmed cast for the film as per IMDb are Jaimie Alexander, who plays Lady Sif; Chris Hemsworth, who plays the titular god and Tom Hiddleston, who plays Loki. "Thor 3: Ragnarok" is to be produced by Keivn Feige. The writers of the film include Jack Kirby, Craig Kyle, Stan Lee, Lary Lieber and Christopher Yost.
