Mayweather Jr. Ends An Era of Boxing — 'My Career's Over. It's Official. You've Got To Know When To Hang It Up'

Floyd Mayweather Jr. just won his 49th victory with his last match versus Andre Berto.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the judges announced a unanimous-decision in favor of Mayweather versus former champion Andre Berto. Mayweather Jr. however, voiced out his intent to retire.

"My career's over. It's official," Mayweather said in the ring. "You've got to know when to hang it up."

As reported, Mayweather was the aggressor during Round 1 of the fight up until Round 3, where Berto finally seemed to show a little aggression. But the real action started at Round 4 when Berto landed a jab on Mayweather.

After the match ended, the judges scored 117-111, 118-110 and 120-108 that sealed Mayweather Jr.'s 49-0 record.

Despite some pockets of action, it was a classic "Mayweather Fight." Known for utilizing his speed and dodging prowess, one of the most winningest boxers in history proved that his technique is effective at winning matches.

According to Boxing Junkie, his opponent Berto has nothing but good words for Floyd Mayweather Jr and said "I haven't been in there with Rocky Marciano, but to be 38 and have that speed and timing, it's unheard of," said Berto. "I got caught up, like everybody else, just trying to knock him out."

His father and trainer, Floyd Mayweather Sr., on the other hand spoke regarding his son's retirement. "If he doesn't want to break Marciano's record because he doesn't want to do it, or whatever the case may be, he shouldn't," Floyd Sr. said. "If you no longer feel like you can carry on, stop."

While both fighters and their respective fighters seemed satisfied by the fight and its result, one fan in particular however yelled "What are those?!" which prompted Mayweather to reply mid-fight according to Bleacher Report.

But despite the criticism regarding Mayweather Jr.'s style, one thing is for certain. He will retire with a perfect and unblemished record.
