New York Fashion Week, one of the most important events in fashion has started and fashion houses and prominent designers are looking to make their mark on the runway.
Among those fashion houses are Givenchy, who unveiled its 2016 spring/summer collection during the New York Fashion Week at Pier 26, according to the International Business Times.
As reported, it was Givenchy's first ever runway show in the city of New York and according to the Independent, Givenchy served as the big opening act of the New York Fashion Week.
"America was the first country to really believe in me. The big success of Givenchy started first in America and it then became a European success. And strange enough, it's a coincidence that even for [founder] Hubert de Givenchy, the big step for Givenchy in the '50s was America," said Givenchy creative director Riccardo Tisci.
One of the most known contemporary designers of today, Tisci is famous for dressing the most prominent people such as First Lady Michelle Obama.
Givenchy Spring/Summer collection features Tisci's signature monochrome minimalistic designs combined with complicated frills.
Among the notable audiences are known Givenchy-brand celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, Julia Roberts and Naomi Campbell.
But one of the most surprising moments in the New York Fashion Week was when it featured a model with Down syndrome.
Madeline Stuart, an 18-year old model from Brisbane, Australia graced the catwalk for FTL Moda's spring collection according to the Daily Mail.
Sporting a variety of ethereal gold and white gown and edgy shirts and shorts, Stuart became fashion spectator to fashion model in just 12 months.
The model is actually the second model with Down syndrome to be featured on the New York catwalk. Looking to challenge how society perceived beauty, Stuart seemed to have succeeded in doing so.
