‘Pro Skater 5’ Is The True Sequel To Original Game Says Developers, Receives Mixed Reactions From Critics

"Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5" is less than 2 weeks away and fans are anticipating the newest incarnation of the successful skate board game franchise.

However, some game critics are not that pleased with the way the new game is being created. According to Now Gamer, "Pro Skater 5" looks "terrible." The site said the footage for the new "Pro Skater 5" levels look rather bland and sterile and even ridiculous. It was also reported that the game revived some of the few known levels and areas, previously seen from old "Tony Hawk" games.

But as reported by Engadget, the game's lead designer, Patrick Dwyer said that making the game is "like making a new Star Wars movie." Dwyer added, "The originals are great and then the rest weren't as good."

Dwyer is referring of course to the high standard set by the previous "Tony Hawk" games, so replicating the same level of success can be quite difficult. However, what Dwyer and the rest of the developers aim for was to recreate the original game and go back to basics.

"With the later games, [developers] had to keep adding stuff to justify the yearly release," says Robomodo President Josh Tsui. "We don't have that burden here so that's really freed us up a lot."

As reported by Hardcore Gamer, a recently released new trailer for "Pro Skater 5" features the gameplay combined with live-action skateboarding videos. The reason for this was to show that the game is similar to real life skating.

But what the game really strives to have is the perfect balance of old and new. And it seems, unlike the previous "Tony Hawk" game, the "Pro Skater 5" seems to be the first true and direct sequel to the original game.

As president Tsui said, "It's not a natural progression from Ride or Shred, It's almost like we're stepping back in time a bit and shaking stuff up."
