'X-Men: Apocalypse' Concludes Mini Trilogy; Director Bryan Singer To Direct New Film

"X-men: Apocalypse" will reportedly be the finale of the mini "X-Men" trilogy, said the screenwriter and producer Simon Kinberg. Meanwhile, director Bryan Singer announced that he will be helming a new film, which is not part of the "X-Men" universe.

Kinberg was recently interviewed at the Toronto International Film Festival. Although it was supposedly about the film he recently produced, "The Martian," Collider was able to get the chance to discuss a few things about "X-Men: Apocalypse."

The producer said that the upcoming "X-Men" film felt like a culmination of James McAvoy's Professor X, Michael Fassbender's Magneto, Nicholas Hoult's Beast and Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique. He also said that this one's a bigger movie, compared with the first two — "X-Men: First Class" and "X-Men: Days of Future Past."

"And it's a bigger movie in both physical scale and I would say emotional stakes too because it is the culmination of this mini trilogy of stories," he said.

Lawrence has already made known to the public, a couple of months back, that this upcoming installment will be her last "X-Men" film. Although, The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Hoult and Fassbender suggested that they're still up to return for any future installments.

Meanwhile, "X-Men: Apocalypse" director Bryan Singer recently revealed on his Instagram that he will be directing Disney's "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea." Though many are speculating that he will leave the "X-Men" franchise, it seems it is not likely to happen — if the basis will be the caption on the Instasnap.

He said that it was a story he wanted to retell since childhood, promising that the story will be emotional and epic. However, a part of the caption stated, "Not abandoning the #xmen universe. Very excited about #xmenapocalypse and beyond."

"X-Men: Apocalypse" is slated for a May 2016 release. Whether or not Singer will direct another "X-Men" film after that is still unknown.

Fans may need to wait for a confirmation, just to be sure. Nothing is really certain, unless an official statement is released.
