'The Simpsons' To End After 30 Years On TV Says Showrunner Al Jean

"The Simpsons," America's longest-running animated sitcom, may finally be coming to an end.

According to RTE, "The Simpsons" is already in its 27th season and its current contract will end by the 28th. There is an option, however, that the show can go for two more seasons. And as reported, negotiations between the Fox and the animated show will begin once it hits season 30.

"It's quite possible that we don't have to go through the whole negotiation for 30," producer Al Jean said.

In a similar report by Metro, Jean said during the discussion about contract negotiations that, "I wouldn't be stunned if we stopped at 28 but my bet is on at least 30. I'd say the likeliest is ending after 30, but I've been wrong before." He quipped, "I thought five seasons was good when I got there (laughs)."

As reported by the Mirror, talks about when the show will end have been going on for the past 10 years; however, it seems that this is the closest that it will finally happen.

Jean hinted how he wants the show to end and said, "I had an idea, I thought it'd be cool if the last episode ended with them getting ready for the Christmas pageant that appeared in the first episode, so that the whole series was a loop that didn't have a beginning or end."

But said, "That's my two cents — but no one has approved that or anything."

Countless celebrities, musicians and even politicians served as guests in the popular animated series. "The Simpsons" is definitely one of the most enduring and iconic TV shows to ever hit the small screen and with 27 seasons and 1 critically acclaimed movie under its belt, fans of the show may get sad when it finally ends.
