‘Scorpion’ Lead Actor Elyes Gabel Enjoys Scenes With Katharine McPhee, Reportedly Dating Co-star; New CBS Series Safe From Cancellation?

"Scorpion" is hoping that it can take advantage on its current slot because slowly but surely, it's currently enjoying a growing audience.

According to Zap2It, with the 90-minute special airing after the "Supergirl" premier, even main star Elyes Gabel now knows how much its network really supports "Scorpion."

The top-billed actor for the Monday adventure-drama series is pleased that the show got expanded. Just last week, the episode featured genius Walter and his comrades locked up inside a "smart" building that became a potential death trap.

Gabel said, "I suppose the hope is for it to be translated past the 90-minute special as a two-parter," and added, "So we've filmed enough footage for it to be cut into two [hour-long] episodes."

It's also interesting to add that the real Walter O' Brien is among the executive producers on the show and Gabel is reportedly consulting him with regards to his portrayal of him.

Gabel said, "Rudimentarily, it's his story, but I suppose the thing the producers try to instill in me, in having a relationship and dialogue with him, is that this is a hybrid. We're creating a fictionalized interpretation of his life."

Among Gabel's main joys in making the show are the Walter and Paige scenes with co-star Katharine McPhee, who's interestingly, is also reported to be involved with him even off-screen.

He said, "You shoot a lot of scenes just because they're there," he says, "and that doesn't mean you're not trying your hardest to imbue them with character and meet your objectives - but certain things are just easier to shoot, and that's definitely what I experience with Katharine. She does a very good job with me about keeping a natural tone to it."

And as popular as "Scorpion" is, Gabel is still being recognized during his stint on HBO's "Game of Thrones" as Dothraki Rakharo on its first two seasons.

He said, "The show is a huge beast," he reflects, "and as peripheral a character as I was on it, there's still a huge attachment. [Viewers] have been in a relationship with it for so long, it doesn't matter where you were in the show, you're always a part of it. I'll get, 'I know you, man! I saw you once, man!' It's a great feeling."

However, "Scorpion" is a beast of its own because according to TV By The Numbers, the show is going strong and far away from being cancelled. And although it's not garnering much hype, it's slowly but surely building its audience because so far it garnered an audience rating of 1.84.

In a related report by Carter Matt, the latest episode of the show will feature Toby in a rough situation as he participates in his first ever boxing match.

Catch "Scorpion" tonight at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT on CBS!
