‘Pirates Of The Caribbean 5’ [LATEST UPDATE]: Johnny Depp Fired? ‘Dead Men Tell No Tales’ Struggles To Restore Fan Interest, Revisits Classic Origins

Uh-oh! Johnny Depp was fired from "Pirates of the Caribbean 5?" Actually, he wasn't but Depp was "almost fired" from the first ever installment titled "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl in 2003. The reason? The producers hated his slurring and mumbling of the script. But aside from that interesting trivia, the latest "Pirates" franchise seemed to be struggling to regain the fans' attention and interest.

"Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales" has officially wrapped up filming and is currently on the early stages of post-production. However, film experts are quite skeptical if the latest "Pirates" franchise can be good as its predecessors since fans have slowly lost interest. But they are trying their best efforts by bringing back the fun and adventure the last two films have given up, Inquisitr noted.

Moreover, "Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales" will also revisit classic origins but will focus more on newcomer Captain Salazar. The character, which will be played by Javier Bardem, will return from the Devil's Triangle to avenge the death of his brother who was allegedly killed by Jack Sparrow (Depp).

While neither Keira Knightley nor Penelope Cruz will make a comeback, Orlando Bloom is reprising his role as Will Turner. As for the new leading lady, British actress Kaya Scodelario will be introduced as Carina Smyth, an astronomer fighting for her right to study. She will collaborate with Sparrow to search for the Trident of Poseidon, the Greek God of the Sea.

Meanwhile, "Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales" actor Johnny Depp has recently revealed during the AFI Festival in Los Angeles on Nov. 9 that he was almost fired from the franchise. According to Us Weekly, 52-year-old Depp recalled how producers "hated" how he appeared to slur and mumble his dialogues on-screen.

"They wanted to fire me," Depp said at a panel, as per Moviefone. "I fully expected to be fired, and I got a call from the upper echelon at Disney who were courageous enough to ask me, 'What the f--k are you doing?'"

"The questions came up, 'Is [the performance] drunk? Is it gay?' All I could say was, because they set me up with a great line, I said, 'Well, don't you know all my characters are gay?'" Depp jokingly added. "I really expected to be fired, but I wasn't for some reason. They were actually gonna put subtitles under my character. They couldn't understand Captain Jack."

Fortunately, fans loved Jack Sparrow and Depp's portrayal of the character. That's why, he's set to return on the big screen on July 7, 2017. However, Movie Pilot reported that Depp's iconic portrayal of Jack Sparrow might not be enough to restore fans' faith in the franchise. So, Disney is going back to the basics by returning the ghost story element.
