Ian Somerhalder Finally Lets Nina Dobrev Go? ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Actor Ditches Hope For Reunion

Ian Somerhalder seemed to have finally accepted the fact that ex-girlfriend and "The Vampire Diaries" costar Nina Dobrev has departed from the series. In a recent interview, Somerhalder opened up about Dobrev's exit and revealed some juicy details on the show's seventh season.

Almost every "The Vampire Diaries" fan all over the world was shocked when Ian Somerhalder's ex-ladylove Nina Dobrev announced her exit from the series in April. Dobrev, who became a household name and earned global recognition because of the show, made the announcement through an emotional Instagram message 7 months ago.

"I've just spent the most beautiful weekend on Lake Lanier in Georgia with my own TVD Family, the cast and crew of The Vampire Diaries," Dobrev wrote on Instagram, as previously reported. "I want to be the first to tell you that it wasn't just a holiday celebration, it was a goodbye party..." (To read the complete caption, click here.)

In Ian Somerhalder's recent interview, Nina Dobrev's ex-beau acknowledged that a lot of fans thought that the hit The CW series, "The Vampire Diaries," wouldn't see the light of day if her character, Elena Gilbert, will not be onboard. However, Somerhalder believed that they were able to prove them wrong, Design & Trend noted.

"I personally think everyone thought it was going to be a huge departure after Elena (Nina Dobrev) was gone. And I was one of those people," Somerhalder told Variety. "I thought it was going to be a huge departure for the typical formula of our show. By virtue of the fact that it wasn't a huge leap for mankind, as far as changing it up, there were some differences that sort of mixed up the formula."

Aside from sharing his thoughts regarding Nina Dobrev's departure, Ian Somerhalder also revealed some interesting scoops about that series' seventh episode and revealed that one episode will concentrate on Damon Salvatore, the character he's playing.

"What we've just started shooting is such a departure (from what is expected of the show)," he added. "I just started shooting episode 10, which is a concept episode. The episode was really about Damon, but that's not why I think it was the best at all. The way the story was put together ... every artisan from set to producers to wardrobe to everyone was just so on-point."

Meanwhile, Ian Somerhalder also opened up why he loves working with female directors. One reason he cited was because male and female directors have different perspectives.

"I love female directors," Somerhalder admitted. "I hate to say it, but women are so much deeper than men. They come at things from a much more layered, emotional perspective. They're much more in tune with the human psyche."

As for Nina Dobrev, she has also previously opened up about her possible comeback on the series. Unfortunately, Ian Somerhalder's ex revealed that particular chapter in her life was already closed, Cambio reported. But she will star in the upcoming rom-com "Crash Pad" and movie "Arrivals with Christina Applegate and Maisie Williams respectively.

"That chapter is closed, sadly - bittersweet," she said before adding, "I want to do something dark and gritty. I want to work with directors that I admire and that will make me better and actors that will challenge me and scare the sh*t out of me."

Do you think there's no hope for Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev's reunion in "The Vampire Diaries?"
