Huawei Mate 8 Features, Specs, Pricing & Release Date

Huawei Mate 8 was recently unveiled and will definitely serve as the Chinese-smartphone maker flagship device.

During the IFA in Berlin last September, Huawei unveiled the Mate S smartphone and back then, the CEO said that they will announce and confirm that the Mate 8 is on the way and true to his word, they have released the Huawei Mate 8.

As reported by Android Headlines, the Mate 8 is a premium smartphone or phablet by Huawei. In fact, the phone is just oozing with "premium" because it's actually made out of metal and sports a metal unibody design. Specifically, the Mate 8 is made out of aerospace-grade aluminium and a unique 2.5D curved diamond cut glass according to the company.

However, according to Mashable the Huawei Mate 8 isn't just looks, it quite packs a solid punch too. Wrap your mind around this, it sports a Kirin 950 eight core processor with the 4xA72 cores running at 2.3GHz and the 4x53 cores at 1.8GHz. In addition, it also has a Mali T880MP4 graphics co-processor.

In addition, there's also the i5 sub-processor, which is used by the device for constant awareness of the sensors, but also offloads tasks such as music playback firewalls, voice-controls and other display-OFF activities. As noted by the report, the i5 should consume orders of magnitudes less power than the Kirin 940 processor meaning, the more things it can handle, the better for the phone's battery life.

Speaking of battery life, CNET stated that it will have a powerful 4,000 mAh battery that can keep the processor and it's humongous screen up and running for a long time.

On the back of the phone, you'll find a fingerprint reader and a whopping 16-megapixel rear camera. In the front, your selfies will be so clear and crisp, it's as if a Getty Images photographer took them with the front camera having 8-megapixels.

As for the size of the screen, Ubergizmo noted that it is equipped with a 6-inch full HD display and a display-to-body ratio of 83 percent, which is at the top of the scale.

But interestingly enough, the Huawei Mate 8's 1080p screen does not seem to feature the company's signature Force Touch technology that recognizes different levels of pressing force and is present in some variants of the Mate S.

As for its operating system, the Huawei Mate 8 will be powered by the Android 6.0 and will have 3GB of RAM and is available in variants that sport either 32 or 64GB of internal storage.

Unfortunately for U.S. fans anticipating the phone, it is only available in China as of now. However, there are reports that said it would arrive in the first quarter of 2016.

As of now, there is no official pricing for the Huawei Mate 8 for the U.S. market.
