‘Doctor Strange’ [LATEST SPOILER UPDATE]: 3 Exciting Scoops About Marvel’s Dark, Psychedelic Film As Production Begins


Marvel's "Doctor Strange" is currently making headlines after it recently announced the start of its production and the confirmation of its cast. And since it is known for its dark and psychedelic influences, fans are getting quite excited about Marvel's upcoming movie as it could be "Marvel's Fantasia," taking them to a journey across multiple dimensions.

"Doctor Strange" is based on a comic-book original superhero named Dr. Stephen Strange aka Sorcerer Supreme, who was created by prolific writer-artist Steve Ditko. As previously reported, the character, played by 39-year-old English actor Benedict Cumberbatch, is an excellent neurosurgeon who turns to magic to heal his hands after a car accident ended his career. Since he is extraordinarily skilled with the occult arts, he eventually became the "Sorcerer Supreme," who will be humanity's defender against supernatural threats from different dimensions.

As Marvel has finally started production on "Doctor Strange," here are 3 exciting scoops about Cumberbatch's dark and psychedelic movie.

1. "Doctor Strange" locations revealed!

Earlier this week, Marvel has announced the film will be shot in several locations including London, New York, Hong Kong and Kathmandu, Nepal, CNET noted.

2. "Doctor Strange" cast finally confirmed!

Marvel has released a list of other main cast members to joing Cumberbatch in the upcoming film. Unfortunately, their roles have been left unspecified. According to Screen Rant, the cast includes Oscar-nominated "12 Years a Slave" actor Chiwetel Ejiofor, "Sherlock Holmes" star Rachel McAdams, "Steve Jobs" actor Michael Stuhlbarg, "Hannibal" lead Mads Mikkelsen and "The Grand Budapest Hotel" actress Tilda Swinton.

In August, Disney confirmed that Swinton will play the role of Doctor Strange's mentor, The Ancient One. While Ejiofor will play Karl Mordo, a magically gifted nemesis of Doctor Strange. While McAdams, Mikkelsen and Stuhlbarg's roles are yet to be revealed. But there have been speculations that McAdams might play Doctor Strange's love interest and fellow mystical arts superhero Clea or occult expert Morgana Blessing.

As for Mikkelsen, he might the role of Clea's uncle and one of Doctor Strange's most powerful enemies Dormammu or the demon Nightmare. Whereas Stuhlbarg is reportedly playing the role of Nicodemus West, Strange's rival scientist who also studied mystical arts with the Ancient One, Variety revealed.

3. "Doctor Strange" synopsis released!

"'Doctor Strange' follows the story of neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions," the synopsis read, as per Slash Film. "'Doctor Strange' is the latest film in Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Phase 3's goal-over the course of four years and nine films-is to introduce audiences to new heroes and continue the adventures of fan favorites.

Meanwhile, "Doctor Strange," which will be helmed by "Sinister" director Scott Derrickson is slated to hit theaters November 4, 2016.
