Is Samsung Galaxy S7 the answer to Samsung 6 failure? The latest buzz in the tech world suggested that the South Korea-based smartphone manufacturer will be concentrating on updating the minute details such the processor speed, camera power and display quality in their newest smartphone project, Slash Gear noted.
Every year, Samsung usually makes some pretty huge changes to the design of its flagship "Galaxy" handsets. And since the launched of the galaxy series in 2010, the company's Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge may have marked the most drastic industrial design changes. But that may change with the Galaxy S7's release next year. According to Techno Buffalo, Samsung is planning to put much of its focus on the Galaxy S7 to the components including "picture quality, performance and other new features," such as a brighter OLED panel, expanded storage, new RAM and Samsung's latest processors.
Aside from the changes, there were also rumors surrounding the Samsung Galaxy S7 release date. Tech Radar hinted the possibility for the release of the new Samsung smartphone on Jan. 19. The site also noted that an analyst at SK Securities suggested Samsung S7 could be unveiled as soon as January for an early February launch. Other sources, however, claimed Samsung has started developing the firmware a month early, which also suggests a possible early release.
Furthermore, there were also added rumors on Samsung S7 release date to be before the year is over. While December has already been mooted as a potential Samsung Galaxy S7 release date, another source claimed a more vague late 2015 date.
Meanwhile, after two years of poor financial results from its mobile division, Samsung Co-CEO and leader of the mobile division JK Shin is stepping down from his role at Samsung Mobile. However, Shin will remain on Samsung's board as president and Co-CEO to focus on the long-term business strategy of the company. While the mobile division will now be spearheaded by Dong Jin Koh, who recently worked on Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 5 when he was the Head of Mobile Research and Development, Forbes reported.
Even though Samsung's last quarter results showed a six percent increase in revenue for the South Korean company (the first rise in two years), the performance of the mobile division was a fiscal drag on Samsung. While revenue slightly rose, profits were down quarter on quarter. But with the upcoming release of Samsung S7, will it finally solve the company's weakening sales?
Given the lead times for product design and manufacturing, Koh's impact on the upcoming Galaxy S7 still remains uncertain. Samsung Galaxy S7 is expected to be announced during Q1 2016, and the traditional press conference would be just before the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona, which would mean a late February announcement. But there are some indications that Samsung is considering an announcement after CES in January.
