BlackBerry Joins Google Android Bandwagon With Priv

BlackBerry has recently unveiled its latest mobile device, the Priv in certain countries. This phone now runs on Google Android and is slated to be launched in India on Jan. 30.

But the new phone will still depend on BlackBerry's framework of apps to maintain its unique package.

BlackBerry phones were once the standard choice of business users and corporate executives. But sales have slumped over the years because of the inroads made by Apple's iOS and Google's Android.

Apparently, after years of lagging behind, the company is now ready to join the Android bandwagon. It seems the company has decided to execute another strategy, after its Z10, Passport and Classis didn't really get off the ground.

When compared to other smartphones, the BlackBerry Priv is unique, the company claims. The device comes with a full-fledge keyboard, a 5.4-inch AMOLED screen with 2,560 x 1,440 pixel resolution, 32 GB disk storage, 3 GB RAM and Snapdragon 808 processor. It also comes with an 18-mp camera that can capture and record 4K videos.

The company says it has a simple design and is very easy to use and yet it still carries the classic image of its previous mobiles with its distinguished look of seriousness in its package.

BlackBerry also claims the smartphone has additional unique features that consumers will want. These include a security feature that will prevent the installation of third party apps or launchers if their sources are unverified.

But the smartphone also has the ability to add new apps and launchers. It also comes with a 2 TB of expansion space. Other phones do not have this feature.

After trailing behind other smartphone makers, BlackBerry has finally ditched its own OS 7 software and adapted to the Android and iOS market in its effort to capture its distinct market. The company hopes that this move will bring it to the forefront of the mobile market once more.
