More Wizarding Schools Revealed By J. K. Rowling!

Harry Potter fans round the world were delighted as series' author J. K. Rowling revealed details about the other wizarding schools in various locations and regions throughout the world through a map on her Facebook page.

These schools, according to Rowling on the website for fans, Pottermore, exist apart from the school featured in the series, Hogwarts and are regulated by the International Confederation of Wizards. Hogwarts is located in Britain and all wizarding schools are in "closely guarded" secret locations, Rowling wrote. This, and the fact that they are in inaccessible locations is so that it is more difficult for 'Muggles' or non-magical folk to come across.

The school in North America is known as Ilvermorny. It is in the north east part and very less is known about it except that native magic was significant in its founding.

The largest magical school is Uagadou, in Africa. It stood while other schools in the region did not; it has been around for over a thousand years and has an enviable reputation of international standing. Its students graduate especially informed in the fields of Astronomy, Alchemy and Self-Transfiguration. The campus is somewhere in the mountains, amidst so much mist that it might look as if it is floating in mid-air.

The school in South America is Castelobruxo, said to be deep in the rainforest. This is a square structure made of golden rock, and the building and grounds are protected by small furry spirits called Caipora who are also a tad roguish. Its students are said to be particularly well verses in herbology and magizoology, and they wear bright green robes - that grow with the students and change color depending on how much they have learnt!

Asian wizards go to Mahoutokoro, an ancient Japanese magic school with the smallest student population. Located on the (supposedly) uninhabited volcanic island of Minami Iwo Jima, the day students travel to school and back home riding on a flock of huge storm petrels.

Fans will recognize Beauxbatons Academy of Magic and Durmstrang Institute from the fourth book and film in the series, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

The extra expansion of the Harry Potter universe, a film called "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" - also written by Rowling - will be in theaters Nov. 18.
