British actor Sir Ian McKellen, who is famous for his portrayal of the wizard, Gandalf, in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, has revealed that he suffers from prostate cancer. However, the 73 year old actor says that his cancer issue is far from being fatal and that he has been fighting the disease for the last 6-7 years.
McKellen, in a recent interview with the Daily Mirror, says that he is not worried because he monitors it and makes sure that it does not spread. He also stated that as long as his cancer remains in his prostate, he was going to be fine with it. The veteran actor says that he regularly undergoes a check-up and that he has not had a single treatment because his disease is being contained.
Even though prostate cancer can pose a dangerous risk if left untreated, the X-Men star maintains that the key to fighting it is detection. He recalls the time when he was first diagnosed with the disease and how he was told that he might need to undergo surgery. However, he says that he decided against it since there was no need for him to go under the knife as long as his cancer does not spread outside his prostate.
